Mercado Libre in Brazil: 2026 rates, taxes, and market entry
The region's largest market and the fastest growing by number of buyers. The free-shipping threshold is low, so inexpensive goods do better here than in Argentina.

Since March 2026 there is no longer a single fixed-fee figure in Brazil: a grid of 29 weight bands across 8 price bands applies instead. The exact rate for a given item is calculated in the platform's simulator — we do this for every SKU before the batch ships and show the result in the calculation.
How we work in this country
Entry route
The fastest option is Partnership: our company imports and sells the goods, and you need no legal entity of your own. If the market takes off, we open a company in your name.
Logistics
We collect the cargo from your supplier, ship it, clear customs, and place it in the warehouse. You choose the product and the supplier.
What you need to know about entering Mercado Libre in Brazil
Brazil is the largest market in Latin America: 213.6 million people and Mercado Libre's fastest growth in five years — GMV +38% year over year, units sold +56%. The flip side of that size is the complexity of the tax system: on top of the 10–20% import duty there is ICMS, whose rate depends on the state and runs 17–20%, plus the federal PIS and COFINS. Estimating the economics by eye does not work here.
The second factor is the platform's move to a variable shipping rate from March 2026. The fee used to be flat; now it depends on the weight and dimensions of the parcel: light, compact goods came out ahead, while bulky and heavy ones lost noticeably. For a seller that means the decision to enter the Brazilian market has to be made on current rates, not on last year's calculations. We published a detailed breakdown of the changes on the blog.
In Brazil we have part of the team with citizenship, ready to run operations on the ground, but unlike in Argentina we do not yet have a warehouse of our own: we select the warehouse and the broker for each specific project launch. We say this plainly because it affects timelines: the first container into Brazil takes a few weeks more preparation than one into Argentina.
