Mercado Libre category analytics — free

A tool for sellers: pick a country and a category and see what sells, how many sellers there are, and what price point buyers are anchored to. We're building the platform on the marketplace's official API, with daily updates. It launches in the coming weeks — for now this section works as an access request.

What the section will show

What a category snapshot will look like

Below is the structure of the report the platform returns for every "country + category" pair. The figures in the example are illustrative: live data is pulled from the marketplace API at the moment of the query.

How to use this

Read three columns together: sales volume, seller count, and price segment. High volume with few sellers is a niche worth a look. High volume with hundreds of sellers means a price war, and the winner there is whoever has the cheaper logistics. The premium segment at low volume is a narrow category where the listing and the rating decide, not the price. After that, it's worth running those numbers through the calculator with your own purchase price and weight.

What analytics doesn't replace

It's a tool that shows a snapshot of the market, not an oracle. It doesn't know your purchase price and it doesn't calculate logistics — that's what the calculator is for. And it doesn't answer whether you can handle a specific niche: that takes a conversation.

Why look at the data before you buy the goods

The most expensive mistake a seller can make in Latin America is bringing in a container of a product that doesn't sell. The mistake costs more than the purchase: the goods sit in the warehouse taking up space, and shipping them back out costs more than bringing them in. So demand and competition are worth checking before the cargo ships, not after.

We take the data from the official Mercado Libre API: how many units sell in the category, how that has changed, how many sellers are in the niche and how fast new ones arrive, who holds the top of search results and at what prices, and what average order value buyers are anchored to. The basic snapshot is free and requires no signup.

Extended access shows what isn't visible from the outside: listing conversion in the category, the leaders' ad cost share, month-by-month seasonality, and trends within subcategories. It opens automatically for clients, but it can also be bought separately, without working with us.

Analytics doesn't replace the unit economics: it doesn't know your purchase price, your packaging weight, or your logistics cost. The right sequence is this — first look at demand and competition by category, then run your own numbers through the calculator, and only then discuss the entry route and the timeline.
